Executive Order 107

What’s the most important thing you learned from our in-class discussion of Executive Order 107? Put somewhat differently, what’s the most important issue that the discussion raised?

(This is the last blog assignment I will be posting.)

  1. One of the most important things that I have learned from this class is that every choice you make is going to affect you in the future. And that you are the only person that has your future in your hands and if something goes wrong with that you can not blame anyone else.

    • I think the executive order 107 prevented many deaths and people getting the corona virus and It was a good call to make from our state to prepare for what was about to come and make people more alert of the situation

  2. I learned that this order was an important order to stop the spread of COVID-19. So there could be less deaths and less carriers giving it unexpectedly. It raised some things like are these really essentials that need to be open like religion stores or if bike shops

  3. I find it very interesting how everyone that this executive order affects all have different opinions on almost every detail. Those who live in the city question why bike shops are still open and why feed stores are still open when it is not as obvious as I thought that the state differs in geography and varies from urban to rural. Taking a deeper look at this executive order alone should make us take a step back and see how the purpose is to accommodate everyone in a time of struggle like this, no matter if one lives in the city or country side. It is just a small example how selfishness needs to be put aside for the well-being of the community.

  4. As much as people hated the quarantine, The Executive Order 107 did a good job at containing the virus. People tend to forgot things in life will and can happen unexpectedly, and COVID-19 is proof of that. The potentially carriers that this order has stop has been massive. One could only imagine if there were no regulations in place to stop the spread of COVID-19.

  5. I found this order to be extremely helpful due to our current situation. The executive order 107 did a pretty good job containing the virus and stopping the spread. Without this order occurring, we would be in a very worse situation then we’re in right now. This order also helped us become more aware of what we’re suppose to do to stay healthy and shows us that we need to follow specific guidelines in order to stop this virus.

  6. i feel the order was a great idea becasue closing stuff down was a great idea to help people because if you can close parts where alot of people can have meeting and thats the most risk to get the virus and clsoing the non essential places down will be the best and keep the essential open because thats what people need becasue hows people will see a bigger picture and it will see it get better in the long run

  7. The quarantine was seen as inconvenient to many because of the fact that it ceased almost all day to day activities. Executive Order 107 was something that needed to be set in place. It is also very shocking to see so many people protesting against the lockdown and quarantine. We often are careless about what is going on around us and if it had not been set in place, there is the possibility that many more people could have contracted the virus and died. This virus was not taken seriously at first and the actions of many careless people caused the lockdown to be extended.

  9. COVID-19 turned everyone’s world upside down. If someone a couple months ago would have told me that tons of people would die from a virus, that countries would shut down, and millions of us would be quarantined and jobless, I would have thought they were on something strong. Executive order 107 has proved to be helpful in maintaining people safe and lowering the spread of COVID-19. These rules put in place may differ from state to state, but at the end with the contagious virus, social distancing, closing nonessential departments, and wearing masks are the outline of Executive order 107. I agree with this executive order, what stands out most to me is staying home and working from home whether it be school or a job or not having a job at all because of the virus. It has been an awkward transition, to say the least, and I can only imagine how the undocumented people who cannot get government aid are coping with it. For those who have papers or social security cards, they can apply for unemployment and get a stimulus check. But for those who cannot, what are their options? To go out and keep working for the money they need to keep up their households.

  10. This was actually a good order because It was very helpful prevented a lot of people from going out. Many people where not use this this change Working from home, having school at home but many people made it work.

  11. The idea behind the order was to try and maintain the spread of COVID-19, which it did. By limiting the access of everyday, non-essential travel, it helped stop the spread of the virus for the time being. It did not eliminate it entirely, but it was a step in the right direction. Yes, many grocery stores and essential stores were becoming overwhelmed with the overhaul of consumers waiting to get into their stores, but as time went on, they also adapted on how to control it. The split in people’s opinion of how they felt about the passing of Executive Order 107 was interesting. The order was meant to direct all residents to stay at home until further notice, with the acceptance of going to buy things. Some people undermined the order and did not take it seriously, which could diminish the full reasoning behind the order in the first place.

  12. After learning exactly what Executive Order 107 is, I think the most important thing that I learned from it is precisely how much control the government has over it’s people. I am not saying if this is a good or bad thing, I am just saying that it is a little mind-opening to see how much power the government hold over us.They can shut anything down at any time they want -for as long as they want. Murphy’s order closed down people’s businesses. This is how they make money and how they can afford to pay their rent and feed their children. At first, non essential businesses were still able to make money during certain hours, but now they must be closed completely. I personally know a family that owns a smoking shop. They sell things such as bongs and pipes. It seems like silly store but this is how they live and that was their only source of income, and unfortunately because of Executive Order 107, they have no means coming in financially. Executive Order 107 has changed their life drastically.

Even with that being said, I think that Executive Order 107 should have been stricter. Yes, people who own small businesses are losing out on money and I expressed how I knew someone personally suffering from it, but this is a humanity over money issue. If this order put an even earlier curfew on essential businesses and limited the number of businesses being opened, then less people would catch the virus. If less people caught the virus, then less people would be dying and the sooner the world can begin to go back to normal. Whatever normal may be of course. I wonder what it would truly take for the world to choose lives over money.

  13. The Executive order was something that had to be done. Being quarantined does suck and from what I seen, it affects mental health. It was most definitely a good call to execute the order as quickly as it did because things could have been a lot worst now. There has been an extensions recently and I’m okay with it, I rather wait patiently rather than having the virus.

  14. One of the most important things I realized was exactly how much time and thought had to be put into this in such a short amount of time. It’s hard to sit down and think about what’s truly essential and what isn’t. There were also a lot of specifics to it like how bike shops needed to be open but only for repairs and service. It also raised a question of what other people considered essential like how some people questioned the religious shops being open. The only issue with that is that some people might view certain business that aren’t considered essential as essential and try to compare it to the businesses they don’t view as essential.

  16. The Executive Order lecture has taught us to think less about our own convenience. We learned that this ruling was made with the consideration of everyone’s well-being, not just our own. We also learned to accept our inconveniences, as this act was made for our best interest. We also have to accept the essential aspects that aren’t related to us. For example, religious and livestock food stores may not be an essential to us, but it is to others. It’s selfish to argue against the purpose of certain businesses, simply because it doesn’t apply to us. We have to think in a more utilitarian way, rather than our own convenience.

  17. It is very interesting to see how much power the government has over us. With the Executive Order 107, it taught me how easily they have control over everyone. The amount of business that had to close down during this pandemic was insane. Personally, when the Executive Order 107 was pushed through, I was glad to see how the government put health over money. With the majority of businesses closed down, curfew (in some places) has reduced the amount of the people contracting the virus. If the Executive Order 107 would have been created, there would probably be thousands of more deaths around the world.

I’m angry that this has to be done, but I am happy that that order is making us safer. I have learned so much especially how the numbers have reduced which is the most important thing. The government does a lot of things we may not like, but they really took the best precaution to help us stay safe, so we can all return to our normal lives as soon as possible. At the end of the day everyone though many might be struggling right now, but better will come if we all work together and make sure we follow this order.

  19. I came to the understanding that Executive order 107, was put in place for good intentions. I believe that Executive Order 107 was something that needed to be set in place. As a result of how careless many people have been acting to undermine the social distancing policies. Regardless of anyone’s controversy, this order was put into motion for everyone’s safety. I believe this order was put into place to eliminate the spreading of Covid-19 whose death rate is increasing as the days go by. Yes, there are some things that I don’t agree with, but it all has to do with keeping us safe so we all can go back outside, which is the ultimate goal. It has become a new normal that many have a hard time accepting but it is something that will benefit us all in the long run. So, although I may not like it, I do agree and accept Executive order 107.

  20. The Executive Order 107 was very well needed and people should be grateful that is was enforced. Without it, many more people would have gotten ill from this virus and our number of deaths would have risen. Although it is hard not being able to live our regular lives, we should try our bests to follow the rules that were set. The better we listen the better the chances are of ending the quarantine sooner and risking less lives. If people really don’t want to stay home then my advice to them is to get a job at an essential business. There’s many essential workers that would prefer to be home with their families and out of danger. A hand can be lent there.

  21. I learned about how Executive Order 107 will impact our daily lives. Although some may think having such orders is harsh, it is for our safety. The more people that closely follow the order, the sooner we will be able to go out without restriction and businesses will reopen. People need to understand that by being careless during this time and not worrying about themselves, they do not realize that they are putting other’s lives at risk.
